Title:
LOCKING DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1988/006245
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A locking device for co-operation with an annular groove on the shaft of a bolt or axle comprises a tubular housing (1) with a bottom (2), in the central part of which there is a bushing (3) coaxial with the housing, which bushing can accomodate the shaft of the bolt or axle. In the housing at least one spring device (4) is placed, which in unstressed condition stretches from the side into an extension of the interior of the bushing (3). A lid (5), which can be moved axially in the housing from an outer position towards the bottom, carries at least one projection (7) directed towards the bottom (2), this projection being placed and designed in such a way that when the lid is pressed towards the bottom, the spring device (4) is pressed away from the extension of the interior of the bushing by the projection. Hereby great security against unintended detachment is obtained, and intended detachment of e.g. a perambulator wheel on an axle can be made without any risk of the user's fingers getting dirty.

Description:
Locking Device

The present invention concerns a locking device of the kind stated in the beginning of the claim.

Such a locking device is known from the description for the French patent No. 873.382, which mentions, among other things, the use of the locking device for the fastening of tarpaulins a vehicle. In this known locking device one end of the spring device is fastened to a projection on the lid directed toward the bottom of the housing, whereby turning of the lid in rela to the housing takes the spring device away from its initial position in the extension of the interior of the hub.

The known locking device cannot be used in cases where the tubular housing and/or the axle shall be able to rotate, e.g. where detachable wheels are to be mounted on perambulators or folding prams, because the locking device is operated by a rot movement . Such application would imply a great risk of uninten detachment of the locking device.

The purpose of the invention is to demonstrate a locking devic giving great security against unintended detachment even for t locking together of parts that can rotate, but where intended detachment can take place easily and quickly.

This is achieved according to the invention by the locking dev being designed as stated in the claim.

When the locking device is placed on the shaft of the bolt or axle, the end of the shaft will press the spring device away f its unstressed initial position until the spring device moves back into the annular groove. In order to detach the" locking device the user presses the lid towards the bottom - e.g. with his thumb - so that the projection presses the spring device o of engagement with the annular groove, after which the user pu the locking device away from the bolt or axle with two fingers

The invention will be explained in more detail in the following in connection with the drawing, where

Fig. 1. Shows one part of a locking device according to the invention seen in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 2,

Fig. 2. A section along the line II - II in Fig. 1,

Fig. 3. The other part of the locking device seen in the direction of the arrow III in Fig. 4, and

Fig. 4. A section along the line IV - IV in Fig. 3.

One part of the locking device, which is shown in Figures 1 and 2, consists of a tubular housing 1 with a bottom 2. A bushing 3 which is coaxial with the housing, is placed centrally in the bottom, and the bushing can accommodate the shaft of a bolt or axle which is not shown in the figure. In the housing at least one, in the shown design two, spring devices 4 are placed, whic in unstressed condition stretch from the side into the extensio of the interior of the bushing 3. When the shaft of a bolt or axle is introduced into the housing through the bushing, the spring devices 4 will be carried from their unstressed initial position until they return elastically and engage with an annul groove in the shaft. Hereby the locking device is secured axial on- the shaft.

Further, the locking device comprises the lid 5 shown in Figure 3 and 4 r which can be placed in the tubular housing 1 and secur against being taken out from the housing by e.g. a border flang 6 (Fig. 2). The lid 5, which can be moved axially in-the housin 1, has on its inside facing the bottom 2 at least one, here two projections 7. These projections 7 are placed and designed in such a way that when the lid is pressed from its outer positio towards the bottom, they press the spring devices 4 away from t annular groove on the shaft of a bolt or axle that has been introduced into the housing 1 through the bushing 3, so that t locking device can be pulled away from the shaft.
