Description:
LOCKING STRUCTURE OF SAFETY GLASSES HAVING A PAIR SIDE SHIELD Technical Field The present invention relates, in general, to a locking structure of safety glasses for a pair of side shields and, more particularly, to a locking structure of safety glasses for a pair of side shields that shield the eyes from being damaged by scattered metallic pieces that are generated in a workshop.

Background Art As well known to those skilled in the art, industrial safety glasses are used in a workshop and, more particularly, are used to shield the eyes from being damaged by scattered metallic pieces that are generated in a workshop.

As shown in Fig. 1, conventional safety glasses comprise a pair of lenses 10 of certain magnifications, a pair of rims 11 for accommodating the lenses 10, a bar and bridge 13 for spacing the rims 11 apart from each other and connecting the rims 11 to each other, a pair of arms 15 for allowing the glasses to be worn on the face, and a pair of side shields 17 for shielding the eyes from scattered metallic pieces. The arms 15 are respectively hinged to sides of the rims 11, and the side shields 17 are fitted around the arms 15.

Each of the side shields 17 comprises a guide groove 19 that is extended from the front to the rear and is used to fit around the arm 15, a pair of shield wings 21, and a pair of fitting projections 23 that are formed in the guide groove 19, are projected upwards and bent toward each other, and serve to allow the side shield 17 to slide along the arm 15 while preventing the side shield 37 from being separated from the arm 15. The contour of the side shield 17 is configured to cover a space between the rim 11 and the face.

However, according to the conventional safety glasses, since no provision is made for locking the side shields, the side shields may easily slide along the

arms. As a consequence, a user has trouble adjusting the position of the side shields properly, and there occurs a problem in which the scattered metallic pieces may enter through the gap that is formed by the slide of the side shields and may damage the face.

Disclosure of the Invention Accordingly, the present invention has been made keeping in mind the above problems occurring in the prior art, and an object of the present invention is to provide a locking structure of safety glasses for a pair of side shields, capable of locking side shields at proper positions, thereby shielding the eyes from being damaged by scattered metallic pieces that are generated in a workshop.

In order to accomplish the above object, the present invention provides a locking structure of safety glasses for a pair of side shields, where the safety glasses include a pair of lenses, a pair of rims, a bar and bridge, a pair of arms and a pair of side shields and each of the side shields includes a guide groove and a pair of shield wings, comprising a pair of fitting projections that are formed in the guide groove, are projected upwards and bent toward each other, and serve to allow the side shields to slide along the arm while preventing the side shields from being separated from the arm, and a pair of slide preventing means that are respectively provided on predetermined positions of the arms so as to prevent the side shields from sliding along the arms by engaging the fitting projections respectively.

Each of the slide preventing means may consist of a one directional slide- passing projection for locking the rear end of the fitting projections after passing the fitting projections, and a stopper projection for restricting the fitting projections from undesirably sliding along the arm In addition, each of the slide preventing means may be a depression that is formed on the inner surface of the arm so as to engage the fitting projections, a distance of the depression corresponding to a length of the fitting projections.

In addition, each of the slide preventing means may be a notch that is

formed in at least one of the upper portion and the lower portion of each of the arms so as to lock the shield by engaging the fitting projections.

In addition, each of the slide preventing means may be a depression that is formed in at least one of the upper portion and the lower portion of each of the arms so as to lock the shield by engaging the fitting projections.

Brief Description of the Drawings Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing conventional safety glasses having a pair of side shields; Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing safety glasses having a pair of side shields according to a first embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing safety glasses having a pair of side shields according to a second embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing safety glasses having a pair of side shields according to a third embodiment of the present invention; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing safety glasses having a pair of side shields according to a fourth embodiment of the present invention.

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention Referring to accompanying drawings, a locking structure of safety glasses for a pair of side shields is described in more detail.

As shown in Fig. 2, safety glasses of the present invention comprise a pair of lenses 10, a pair of rims 31, a bar and bridge 33, a pair of arms 35, and a pair of chip obstructing side shields 37. Each of the side shields 37 comprises a guide groove 39, a pair of shield wings 41, and a pair of fitting projections 43. In particular, the fitting projections 43 are formed in the guide groove 39, are projected upwards and bent toward each other, and serve to allow the side shield 37 to slide along the arm 35 while preventing the side shield 37 from being separated from the arm 35. A slide preventing means 45 is provided on the

predetermined positions of the arms 35 so as to prevent the side shield 37 from undesirably sliding along the arm 35 by locking the fitting projections 43 respectively.

Each of the slide preventing means 45 is projected inwardly from the inner surface of the arm 35. The slide preventing means 45 consists of a one directional slide-passing projection 47 for locking the rear end of the fitting projections 43 after passing the fitting projections 43 and a stopper projection 49 for restricting the fitting projections 43 from undesirably sliding along the arm 35.

A spaced distance between the one directional slide-passing projection 47 and the stopper projection 49 corresponds to the length of the fitting projections 43. In addition, as shown in Fig. 3, the slide preventing means 45 may be a depression 50 that is formed on the inner surface of the arm 35 so as to lock the shield 37 by engaging the fitting projections 43, the distance of the depression 50 corresponding to the length of the fitting projections 43.

Furthermore, as shown in Fig. 4, the slide preventing means 45 may be a notch 52 that is formed in at least one of the upper portion and the lower portion of each of the arms 35 so as to lock the shield 37 by engaging the fitting projections 43. This construction may be replaced with the construction of Fig. 5. That is, the slide preventing means 54 may be a depression 54 that is formed in at least one of the upper portion and the lower portion of each of the arms 35 so as to lock the shield 37 by engaging the fitting projections 43.

Industrial Applicability As described above, the present invention provides a locking structure of safety glasses for a pair of side shields, capable of preventing the side shields 37 from sliding along guide grooves 39 in such a way that the slide preventing means 45 of the safety glasses engages the fitting projections 43 of the side shields 37.

As a consequence, since the side shields 37 are locked at predetermined positions of the safety glasses, a user may be protected from being damaged by the scattered metallic pieces and may be provided with a convenience because he does not need to adjust the positions of the side shields.
