A lockup device (7) of a torque converter (1) has a piston (75), a piston connection mechanism
(76), a clutch plate (71), and a damper mechanism (9). The piston connection mechanism
(9) connects the piston (75) to a front cover (11) such that the piston (76) can
rotate with the front cover (11) and move in the axial direction, and limits the
movement of the piston (75) to the turbine (22) side within a predetermined range.
