Abstract:
Implementations of the subject matter described herein provide a non-volatile memory (NVM) based storage management solution. In this solution, a log-appended-structured NVM based storage system is provided. In such log-appended-structured storage system, the plurality of data blocks are sequentially appended and having non-fixed block sizes. The storage system further includes a mapping structure including a plurality of address mappings, and each of the address mappings associates a home address (accessible to an application) with a log address (a physical address of the data block) for a data block. Furthermore, the storage system includes a storage manager, which is configured to control various operations of the storage system. By utilizing such log-appended-structured NVM with its associated address mapping mechanism, the issue of fragmentation can be significantly reduced with high efficiency and low cost. Meanwhile, with the aid of the mapping structure, byte-level look-up granularity can be achieved, which renders byte-level addressability.
