Abstract:
This low-density gel article has, on the surface thereof, a coating layer constituted by a polymerized monomer polymerizable in a gas phase. This low-density gel article has improved mechanical strength. The low-density gel article is, for example, an aerogel or a xerogel. The low-density gel article may, for example, be a monolithic article such as a sheet, or particles. The monomer polymerizable in a gas phase is, for example, at least one monomer selected from olefins, styrene, styrene derivatives, (meth)acrylic acid, (meth)acrylic acid esters, p-xylylene, and p-xylylene derivatives.
