The present invention addresses the problem of providing a lubricant-enclosing device that makes it possible to monitor fluctuations in the pH of a lubricant while the lubricant-enclosing device is operating. The present invention also addresses the problem of providing a lubricant and an additive that make it possible to quickly ascertain fluctuations in the pH of the lubricant.　Provided are: a lubricant-enclosing device in which a pH-responsive substance that changes molecular structure depending on the pH of an enclosed lubricant is provided at portions that contact the lubricant; a lubricant that includes a pH-responsive substance; and an additive to be added the lubricant.　Providing the pH-responsive substance so as to contact the lubricant makes it possible to monitor fluctuations in the pH of the lubricant while the lubricant-enclosing device is operating on the basis of changes in the molecular structure of the pH-responsive substance in response to the pH of the lubricant. The lubricant that includes a pH-responsive substance and the additive to be added to the lubricant make it possible to quickly ascertain fluctuations in the pH of the lubricant.
