Abstract:
In the present invention, a lubricant for a magnetic recording medium contains an ionic liquid in which a Brønsted acid and a Brønsted base in the form of a primary amine are the structural components of the ionic liquid. The Brønsted acid has a fluorine-containing chain, and the Brønsted base has a fluorine-containing chain that is either a perfluoroalkyl chain or a perfluoropolyether chain. At least any one of the following conditions is satisfied: the fluorine-containing chain in the Brønsted acid is a perfluoropolyether chain; or the fluorine-containing chain in the Brønsted base is a perfluoropolyether chain. The number-average molecular weight of the fluorine-containing chain in the Brønsted acid is 1,500 or less.
