Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition characterized in that it comprises a lube base oil and contained therein a sulphonate, phynate, or salicylate of an alkaline earth metal and that in a block-on-disk test, the coefficient of friction between metals as measured at -20°C is 0.12 or higher. With the composition, the coefficient of friction between metals in metal belts can be kept high in a wide temperature range of from a low to a high temperature. In particular, the lubricating oil composition has such high performance that $g(m) is 0.12 or higher at a temperature as low as -20°C.
