Abstract:
A lubricating oil composition which comprises a base oil for a lubricating oil and an additive component mainly consisting of (A) a specific alkali metal salicylate or alkaline earth metal salicylate and/or a (over-)basic salt thereof, (B) a phosphorus-containing abrasion inhibitor, (C) a non-ash dispersing agent and (D) a non-ash antioxidant, wherein the composition has a boron content of 0.01 to 0.15 mass % and a total sulfur content of 0.3 mass % or less, the percentages being relative to the total amount of the composition. The above lubricating oil composition is a low sulfur lubricating oil which is extremely excellent in the property of inhibiting the abrasion of a valve train system of an internal combustion engine and also is excellent in long-drain characteristics and the like, and thus is suitable especially for use in an internal combustion engine.
