Provided is a lubricating oil composition having excellent oxidation stability, the composition being suitable as a lubricating oil for an internal combustion engine, automatic transmission, or the like, and in particular as an internal combustion engine lubricating oil, in which a lubricating oil base oil contains one or more types of phosphorous compound represented by general formula (1) as a component (A), the (molar) ratio of elemental sulfur, based on the compound of general formula (1), and elemental phosphorous in the oil being 0.05-0.8 and the phosphorous content in the oil, based on the component (A), being 0.01-0.5 mass%. (In formula (1), R1 to R4 are a C1-30 hydrocarbon group, a C1-30 alkyl group, or an alkyl thioethyl group having an alkenyl group, and may be the same or different. X1 to X4 each independently represent sulfur or oxygen, and Y represents a metal element.)
