Abstract:
Provided is a lubricating oil composition containing a base oil (A), an organic molybdenum compound (B), and nano-order particles (C) that satisfy condition (I) indicated below and that have a particle size of 1-1000 nm (excluding particles corresponding to component (B)). Condition (I): when a resonance shear measurement device is used to measure the change in the value of the elastic modulus accompanying change in the distance between solid surfaces in sample oil (α) obtained by dispersing the nano-order particles (C) in a paraffinic mineral oil for use in sample oil, the distance x0 between solid surfaces satisfies formula (i) indicated below and is in the range of 50 ≤ x0 < 1000. Formula (i): Emin × 1.2 = E(x0) (in formula (i), Emin (N/m) represents the minimum value of the elastic modulus in the range of 0.1 (nm) or more but less than 1000 (nm), and E(x0) (N/m) represents the value of the elastic modulus at the distance x0 (nm) between solid surfaces).
