Abstract:

Disclosed is a method for producing a pregnane derivative represented by the general formula (III) below which is characterized by selectively reducing a carbon-carbon double bond of a 5&agr -pregnane derivative represented by the general formula (II) below in a mixture of 5&agr -pregnane derivatives represented by the general formulae (I) and (II) below. By this method, a 5&agr -pregnane derivative which is useful as a synthetic intermediate for a squalamine can be produced from an easily-available raw material at high yield. (In the formulae, R¹, R², R¹¹ and R¹² independently represent a hydrogen atom or a protecting group of a hydroxyl group.)
