Technical Field
The present invention relates to a machine for processing a log, and in
particular to a machine for processing a log which is capable of processing log
roundly and smoothly irrespective of a diameter and length of a log.
Background Art
A log (round timber) is manufactured by cutting mountain trees with
certain lengths for a certain purpose of use. The tree is cut at a sawmill for
thereby producing timber. The timber may be classified into a square timber, a
flat timber, and a log.
The above log is used for the purposes of scaffold, roof material or pile.
Recently, the log is used for constructing a log house in such a manner that logs
are horizontally stacked for manufacturing a wall, and a corner portion is made
in a well shape.
In the conventional art, the logs are cut using knife. In the case that the
log has a large diameter and is long, it is impossible to cut with knife. In the
case that the logs are curved, timbering the logs is very difficult. In addition,
cutting the logs having different end diameters in conical shapes is not easy.
Disclosure of Invention
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to overcome the
problems encountered in the conventional art.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a machine for
processing a log which is capable of processing a lop roundly and smoothly
irrespective of a diameter and length even when it has rough surfaces or curved
portions.
The other objects and advantages and new features of the present
invention will be obvious with the following descriptions with reference to the
accompanying drawings.

according to the present invention, and Figure 5 is a right view illustrating a
machine for processing a log according to the present invention.
As shown therein, a machine for processing a log according to the
present invention comprises a support frame 10, a saw blade assembly 20 for
sawing logs while reciprocating along a guide installed at the support frame 10,
a moving device 30 for reciprocating the saw blade assembly 20, a pair of
clamps 40 for fixing the log, and a rotation device 50 for rotating the log fixed at
the clamps 40.
The support frame 10 comprises a base plate 11 , a plurality of posts 12
vertically installed at a rear side of the base plate 11 , a plurality of supports 13
connected with the base plate 11 and the post 12 at certain inclination angles,
and a guide 14 engaged with a front end of the post 12.
A plurality of horizontal adjusting members 15 may be further installed at
a lower surface of the base plate 10, so that it is preferred to maintain a
horizontal state of the support frame 10 irrespective of installation places.
Here, the guide 14 is formed of a H shape steel, and a moving roller 22
installed at one side of the saw blade assembly 20 is moved along the flange of
the H shaped steel.
As shown in Figure 1 , the saw blade assembly 20 comprises first and
second assembly plates 21 and 21', a moving roller 22 which is installed at an
upper one side of the first assembly plate 21 and moves along the guide 14, a
motor 23 fixed at an upper side of the second assembly plate 21', a pair of
bearings 24 and 24' fixed at the lower side of the second assembly plate 21'
with certain interval, a rotary shaft 26 which is supported by the bearings 24 and
24' and rotates by a belt 25 connected with the shaft of the motor 23, a plurality
of saw blades 27 installed at the rotary shaft 26, and a height adjusting handle
28 which is installed at an upper side of the second assembly plate 21' for lifting
or lowering the second assembly plate 21' along the first assembly plate 21.
A pair of guide protrusions 21a and 21a' are formed at both walls of the
first assembly plate 21 , and a pair of guide grooves 21b and 21b' are formed at
both sides of the second assembly plate 21'. The first and second assembly
plates 21 and 21' are assembled by inserting the second assembly plate 21'
between the both walls of the first assembly plate 21. In the assembled state,
the second assembly plate 21' moves up and down along the first assembly
plate 21 by rotating the height adjusting handle 28 engaged at the upper side of
the second assembly plate 21'.
The moving device 20 comprises a driving motor 31 , a driving pulley 32
installed at one side of the guide 14, a driven pulley 33 installed at the other
side of the driving pulley 32, and a belt 34 of which both ends are fixed by the
saw blade assembly 20. The saw blade assembly 20 reciprocates in the left and
right directions along the guide 14.
The clamp 30 comprises a fixing clamp 40a installed at one side of the
support 41 fixed at the base plate 10, and a moving clamp 40b which is
movably installed at the other side of the same. The fixing clamp 40a comprises
a base 42, a pair of bearings 43 and 43' fixed at the base 42, a rotary shaft 44
which is supported by the bearings 43 and 43', and a fixing plate 45 which is
fixed at one end of the rotary shaft 44. The moving clamp 40b comprises a base
42, an interval adjusting handle 46 for adjusting an interval with the fixing clamp,
a pair of supports 47 and 47' fixed at the base 42 for supporting the shaft 48 of
the interval adjusting handle 46, a fixing plate 45 which is freely fixed at the
shaft 48 of the interval adjusting handle 46, and an insertion plate 49 which is
engaged at the base 42 for adjusting the height of the moving clamp 40b.
When the log to be processed is fixed at the clamp 40, the moving clamp
40b is moved and fixed along the length of the log. The log is fixed between the
fixing clamp 40a and the moving clamp 40b by rotating the interval adjusting
handle 46 of the moving clamp 40b. When both ends of the log are processed,
a plurality of insertion plates 49 are inserted on the base 42 of the moving
clamp 40b.
The rotation device 50 comprises a driving motor 51 , a driving pulley 52
installed at the driving motor 51 , a driven pulley 53 installed at the rotary shaft
44 of the fixing clamp 4Oa 1 and a belt 54. The fixing plate 45 installed at the
rotary shaft 44 of the fixing clamp 40a is rotated in the direction reverse to the
saw blade 20.
The operation of the machine for processing a log according to the
present invention will be described.
First, the position of the moving clamp 40b is changed based on the
length of the log L and is fixed at the support 41. The log L is fixed between the
fixing plate 45 of the fixing clamp 40a and the fixing plate 45 of the moving
clamp 40b by rotating the interval adjusting handle 46 of the moving clamp 40b.
When the both ends of the log are processed in conical shapes withy different
diameters, a needed number of insertion plates 49 are inserted on the base 42
of the moving clamp 40b for thereby adjusting the height.
The saw blade 27 is positioned based on the diameter and thickness of
the log L fixed between the clamps 40a and 40b, and the second assembly
plate 21 'a is moved up by rotating the height adjusting handle 28 of the saw
blade assembly 20.
When the log L is fixed, and the position of the saw blade assembly 20 is
fixed, the saw blade 27 is rotated, and at the same time the fixing plate 45 of the
fixing clamp 40a is rotated in the direction reverse to the saw lade 27 by using
the rotation device 50, so that it is possible to cut the log L with a desired
thickness while rotating the log L. In addition, the log L is cut in the longitudinal
direction while sequentially moving the saw blade assembly 20 using the
moving device.
Industrial Applicability
As described above, in the present invention, it is possible to process a
lop roundly and smoothly irrespective of a diameter and length even when it
has rough surfaces or curved portions. It is possible to process the log with
