Disclosed are a machine tool balancer adaptable to ram-type horizontal boring machines, and a balance control method. To this end, the device has a suspension structure (16) comprising: a first linear guide which has a guide block (22a) and a guide rail (23) positioned inside of a saddle (14), and in which the guide block (22a) is fixed to the top surface of a ram (15) above the center of gravity thereof; and a second linear guide which has a guide block (26) and a guide rail (25) positioned outside of the saddle (14), and in which the guide rail (23) of the first linear guide is connected with the guide rail (25) of the second linear guide, and a first and second counterweight are connected with the guide block (26) of the second linear guide. Said guide block (26) is moved to a position directly above the guide block (22a) of the first linear guide in synchrony with the position of said guide block (22a), which moves together with the extending of the ram (15), and the second counterweight is moved in point symmetry to the position of the guide block (26) of the second linear guide.
