Abstract:
Provided is a machine tool with which a reduction in the machining time of a workpiece is achieved when relative reciprocal oscillation of a workpiece holding means and a tool post in the radial direction of the workpiece is stopped during a period from an initial point until the workpiece and a cutting tool come into contact with one another, and a control device for this machine tool. In this machine tool, when performing a screw cutting process for forming a screw part in a workpiece W by performing an incision process a plurality of times along the same cutting pathway having a prescribed helical shape, by moving the workpiece and a cutting tool 130 relative to one another in a processing feed direction while rotating the same relative to one another, the cutting tool is caused to approach the workpiece in the processing feed direction from a prescribed initial point I at which the workpiece and the cutting tool are separated from one another, and the screw cutting process begins by the workpiece and the cutting tool coming into contact with one another. During the period from the initial point until the workpiece and the cutting tool come into contact with one another, a control means (illustrated by way of example as a control unit C1) performs control to stop oscillation of the cutting tool, and to stop reciprocal oscillation with the phase position of the tool post, in the oscillation direction, defined such that when the workpiece and the cutting tool come into contact with one another in the successive incision processes of the plurality of incision processes of the screw cutting process, prescribed reciprocal oscillation phases (illustrated by way of example as processing starting points S1, S2, S3, S5, and S7) are attained with respect to the rotational phase of the workpiece at which the screw cutting process starts.
