The machine tool is provided with: a main shaft (2) that grasps and rotates an end of the workpiece (W), the outer surface of which is a cylindrical surface; blade mounts (13) that are freely rotatable around axes of rotation (O2) that are parallel to the shaft center (O1) of the main shaft (2) and are freely movable relative to the main shaft (2) in the advance direction; tools (14A) that are mounted on the blade mounts (13); and a processing control means (20). The tools (14A) have flat blade edges and are mounted on the blade mounts (13) so that the blade edges are parallel to tangents of imaginary circular trajectories of the tools (14A) due to rotation of the blade mounts (13) and are slanted with respect to the shaft center (O1) of the main shaft (2). The processing control means (20) synchronizes the angular positions of the blade mounts (13) around the axes of rotation (O2) with the positions of the blade mounts (13) in the advance directions so that the blade edges of the tools (14A) maintain a constant distance from the generating line forming the outer surface of the workpiece (W) held on the main shaft (2).
