A machine tool (1) having: a work-rotating device provided with a headstock (11); a turret device (12) capable of indexing tools; drive devices (13, 14) for moving the headstock (11) or the turret device (12) in the Z-axis direction and in the X-axis direction; and a control device (15) for controlling each of the devices. Therein, the turret device (12) is configured from a tool post (42) having channels (421, 561) formed therein for supplying a cooling fluid to a machining site, and indexing mechanisms (44, 45) for making it possible to move the tool post in the X-axis direction and to rotate the tool post around a rotating shaft (43) parallel to the X-axis direction. Furthermore, a detection rod (62) is inserted into a hollow section in the rotating shaft (43), one end side of the detection rod (62) is affixed to the machining-side surface section of the tool post (42), the other end side of the detection rod (62) projects from the non-machining side on the opposite side from the machining-side surface section, and the non-machining side is provided with a displacement sensor (65) for detecting displacement of the detection rod (62) in the X-axis direction.
