Abstract:
A machine tool (1) includes a main shaft (4), a main shaft X-axis movement mechanism which moves the main shaft (4) in an X-axis direction, a tool post (10) fitted with a cutting tool (12) for machining a workpiece (W), and a tool post X-axis movement mechanism which moves the tool post (10) in the X-axis direction, wherein a pivoting mechanism which causes the cutting tool (12) to pivot is provided on the tool post (10), characterized in that the machine tool (1) includes a calculating means (20) for calculating a movement distance (XA), in the X-axis direction, of the cutting tool (12) when the cutting tool (12) has pivoted through a desired pivot angle (α), and a control means (20) for controlling the operation of the main shaft X-axis movement mechanism in such a way that the main shaft (4) moves in the X-axis direction to follow the cutting tool (12) in accordance with the movement distance (XA).
