Abstract:
[Problem] To provide an electrolyte solution for a magnesium air battery that has excellent power generation duration and discharge capacity. [Solution] A magnesium air battery (10) is configured by stacking four cells (20) within a case (11), additionally stacking a conductive metal plate (28) on one end, sealing the result, and using a cap (15) that has a through hole (16) formed therein to seal a lower surface. Each of the cells (20) is configured from a stainless steel positive electrode (21), a positive electrode active substance (22) that contains active carbon, an electrolyte layer (23) that is configured from a separator that holds an electrolyte, and a negative electrode (24) that comprises magnesium alloy AZ31. The electrolyte layer (23) is formed by impregnating ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid tetrasodium (EDTA4Na) with an aqueous solution to which 0.2% of calcium chloride has been added and drying the result. By using ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid tetrasodium as an electrolyte solution, it is possible to minimize the generation of magnesium hydroxide and improve power generation duration and discharge capacity.
