Abstract:
A magnetic card reader configured such that a magnetic card is inserted in a travel direction into a card travel groove, wherein the magnetic card reader has functions of static elimination and cleaning. An electrically conductive stationary static-eliminating member (19) is provided to a magnetic card inlet section (15) for guiding a magnetic card to a magnetic card reader unit (14) provided with a magnetic head (17). The stationary static-eliminating member (19) is mounted such that a swollen section thereof projects into a card travel groove through an opening (15b) formed in a side wall (15a). An electrically conductive cleaning pad is applied to the surface of the stationary static-eliminating member (19). The magnetic card inserted into the magnetic head inlet section (15) is cleaned by the cleaning pad. If the magnetic card carries static, the static is eliminated by discharging the static to the ground through the electrically conductive cleaning pad, the stationary static-eliminating member (19), and a fitting for fixing the magnetic card reader.
