The present invention provides: a magnetic carrier for electrophotographic developers which has excellent durability and which has stable charging characteristics to diminish toner spending due to adhesion to the magnetic carrier; and a two-component developer which comprises the magnetic carrier for electrophotographic developers and a toner. The invention further relates to a magnetic-carrier core material that is used in electrophotographic developers and consists of spherical composite particles that comprise fine ferromagnetic iron oxide particles and a hardened phenolic resin and that have an average particle diameter of 1-100 µm, wherein the spherical composite particles have a resin index in the range of 35-80%. The magnetic carrier is obtained by coating the surface of the particles of the magnetic-carrier core material with a resin.
