Abstract:
This magnetic-characteristics detection device, which detects the magnetic characteristics of a magnetic substance contained in a slip of paper being conveyed along a conveyance path, comprises a magnet unit and a plurality of magnetism sensors. The magnet unit generates a magnetic field oriented in a direction that is perpendicular to the direction in which the slip of paper is conveyed along the conveyance path but parallel to the surface on which the slip of paper is conveyed. In the direction in which the slip of paper is conveyed, the magnetic field progressively decreases in strength, but after reaching a strength of zero, reverses direction and increases in strength again. The magnetism sensors detect the magnetic characteristics of the slip of paper being conveyed along the conveyance path and are arranged, within the magnetic field generated by the magnet unit, at positions that have different magnetic-field strengths. The magnetic characteristics of a magnetic substance contained in the slip of paper are detected on the basis of output signals produced when the magnetism sensors detected said magnetic substance.
