This magnetic detection element is provided with: an element part (20) which includes a plurality of linear sections (21) arranged in parallel with one another and a plurality of connection sections (22) connecting the plurality of linear sections to one another in a meandering shape and which is formed on one surface (11) of a substrate (10); and a metallic film (30) the resistance value of which is lower than that of the element part and the resistance value of which is not changed by an external magnetic field. The metallic film incudes: a first layered section (31) layered on a folded section (24) which is formed of the connection sections and connection portions between the connection sections and the linear sections in the element part; and a second layered section (32) being integrated with the first layered section and covering the entire region which is, on said one surface, surrounded by an inner end (24b) of the folded section. The first layered section has an outer peripheral edge (31a) which is disposed on a side closer to the inner end than an outer end (24a) of the folded section such that an outer peripheral edge (24c) of the folded section is exposed.
