Abstract:

A magnetic flowmeter (102) includes flowmeter electronics (143) and a flowtube (108) configured to receive process fluid flow. The flowtube (108) has a plurality of electrodes (124) disposed proximate an inner diameter to contact process fluid. At least one ultrasonic transducer (170) is disposed within the flowtube (108) and is configured to couple ultrasonic energy to the process fluid which is proximate to at least one electrode (124). Flowmeter electronics (143) are coupled to the plurality of electrodes (124) and the at least one ultrasonic transducer (170) are configured to detect at least partial electrode (124) coating or buildup and responsively generate a cleaning cycle within the flowtube (108) using the at least one ultrasonic transducer (170).
