Title:
MAGNETIC HEAD FOR READING DATA ON A CREDIT CARD
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/107191
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a magnetic head for reading data on a credit card, which reads each of the data tracks of a credit card with three data tracks spaced apart from each other in a magnetic strip of the credit card. The magnetic head comprises: a first unit body having a first magnetic track and a second magnetic track formed by a plurality of magnetic cores accommodated and fixed in two symmetrical housings, wherein the gap formed between said first magnetic track and said second magnetic track is identical to the gap between the first data track and the second data track of the credit card; a second unit body which has a third magnetic track formed by a plurality of magnetic cores accommodated and fixed in two symmetrical housings, and which is arranged adjacent to the first unit body; and a plurality of soft magnetic members which are attached to the circumferences of housings at one or both sides of the first unit body and the second unit body, and each of which has a bottom with a ground connecting portion protruding downwardly so as to be ground-connected to an electrical circuit and to a metal frame. The first unit body and the second unit body are coupled together such that the gap therebetween is identical to the gap maintained between the second data track and the third data track of the credit card, so that data can thus be read from or written to the three data tracks in the magnetic strip of the credit card. The present invention is provided with divided unit bodies such that magnetic cores are firmly fixed in two symmetrical housings which are prevented from separating from each other even without using a screw. The soft magnetic members for preventing signal interferences are arranged in the narrow gap maintained between data tracks of the credit card as prescribed by the International Organization for Standardization. The unit bodies can be combined with a gap identical to the gap between standardized data tracks of the credit card. Even when the magnetic strip of the credit card, which is a magnetic recording medium, is warped or deformed, the magnetic tracks of each unit body independently contact the deformed surface of the magnetic strip to accurately read data recorded on each data track of the magnetic strip.
