Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a technology which can further enhance data recording density. [Solution] A magnetic recording medium according to the present technology includes a base material and a magnetic layer, and has a tape shape that is long in the longitudinal direction and short in the width direction, wherein the magnetic layer includes: a data band in which a data signal is written and which is long in the longitudinal direction; and a servo band in which a servo signal is written and which is long in the longitudinal direction. The degree of vertical alignment of the magnetic layer is equal to or greater than 65%, a full-width at half-maximum of a solitary waveform in a reproduction waveform of the data signal is equal to or smaller than 185 nm, the thickness of the magnetic layer is equal to or smaller than 90 nm, and the thickness of the base material is equal to or smaller than 4.2 μm.
