Abstract:
A magnetic recording medium (100) comprises a substrate (1), a first orientation control layer (2), a second orientation control layer (4), a soft magnetic layer (6), a nonmagnetic layer (8), a recording layer (12), and a carbon protective layer (14), all the layers being provided on the substrate (1). The recording layer (12) is made of FePt ordered alloy phases exhibiting ferromagnetism and FePt3 ordered alloy phases exhibiting paramagnetism. The magnetic attraction force acting between the FePt ordered alloy phases is cut off by the FePt3 ordered alloy phases exhibiting paramagnetism, and the magnetic interaction between the FePt ordered alloy phases is reduced, thus reducing noise. The recording layer (12) is made of an FePt ordered alloy having a high crystal magnetic anisotropy, and therefore the thermal stability is excellent, thus enabling high−density recording.
