Abstract:
The present invention provides a vertical magnetic recording medium which uses a seed layer, and has a magnetic recording layer that contains an ordered alloy which is suitable for vertical magnetic recording. Alternatively, the present invention improves recording density while maintaining the required thermal stability. Alternatively, the present invention balances a decrease in particle diameter and an increase in the thickness of the magnetic layer. The magnetic recording medium has a substrate, a first seed layer, a second seed layer containing ZnO, a third seed layer containing MgO, and a magnetic recording layer containing an ordered alloy, in this order, and is characterized in that the first seed layer contains Ru, and also contains one or more selected from the group consisting of an oxide, a carbide, and a nitride.
