Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a magnetic recording medium including a magnetic layer or magnetic recording layer which has a granular structure in which magnetic crystal grains have been satisfactorily separated from one another. The magnetic recording medium of the present invention comprises a base, a seed layer, and a magnetic recording layer, the magnetic recording layer comprising a first magnetic layer, which is a continuous film constituted of an ordered alloy, and a second magnetic layer, which has a granular structure comprising magnetic crystal grains constituted of an ordered alloy and non-magnetic crystal grain boundaries, and the seed layer comprising a material selected from the group consisting of NaCl-type compounds, spinel-type compounds, and perovskite-type compounds.
