Abstract:
Provided is a magnetic separator that can efficiently separate ferromagnetic particles from powder and granular material even when the powder and granular material that includes the ferromagnetic particles is processed in a large volume and when the layer of powder and granular material supplied is thick, can perform magnetic sorting at a low cost without requiring complex processes, wastewater treatment, or the like, and further can resolve problems of ferromagnetic particle adherence peculiar to conveyor belt type magnetic separators. The magnetic separator has at least a pair of guide rolls and a conveyor belt that is stretched across the pair of rolls and transports the powder and granular material that includes the ferromagnetic particles. Either one of the guide rolls is a hollow roll, and in the hollow part thereof, has a magnetic roll whereon are disposed a plurality of magnets along the inner peripheral surface of the guide roll sequentially in the circumferential direction with a space therebetween such that different magnetic poles alternate. The magnetic separator is provided with a shielding wall for shielding magnetic lines of force from the magnets by covering a circular arc region on the outer peripheral surface of the one guide roll except for a circular arc region whereon the conveyor belt is wrapped.
