Title:
MAGNETIC STIMULATOR
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2004082759
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
At least two coils (104, 106) deliver at least two time-varying magnetic fields (108, 110) to a target region within a body. The coils (104, 106) oriented such that the magnetic fields (108, 110) create intersecting electric fields (112, 114) in the target region. The magnetic fields (108, 110) operate at different frequencies and thus produce a beat frequency signal where the electric fields (120) intersect (116). The frequencies are chosen so a time-varying electric field (120), or a current induced by a time-varying magnetic field (108, 110), alternating at the beat frequency would stimulate excitable tissue located in the target tissue. Some embodiments utilize a novel coil (1202), which includes a first conductor (1206) and at least one second conductor (1212) electrically connected to the first conductor (1206) at a point (1210).
