Abstract:
Disclosed is a data recording method in which, during data recording, the data to be recorded on a magnetic tape is divided into main data and auxiliary data, and, from among a plurality of data tracks, the main data is recorded onto main data tracks and the auxiliary data is recorded onto auxiliary data tracks. In the data recording method, during data reproduction, the error rate of data read by all head elements is calculated, and in cases in which the error rate is lower than a prescribed value, the main data and the auxiliary data are read by all of the head elements. In cases in which the error rate is higher than the prescribed value, the main data or the auxiliary data is read by arbitrary head elements from among the plurality of head elements.
