Abstract:
Provided is a magnetic tape device capable of detecting more accurately the state of a magnetic tape. This magnetic tape device (100) comprises: a take-up reel (101) for winding a magnetic tape (201); a drive head (103) for writing information onto the magnetic tape (201) and/or reading the information recorded on the magnetic tape (201); an image sensor (104) for capturing images of the surface of the magnetic tape (201); and a control unit (105) for processing the images captured by the image sensor (104), and determining whether or not there is an abnormality on the surface of the magnetic tape (201). When the image sensor (104) captures the images of the surface of the magnetic tape (201), the control unit (105) adjusts the winding speed at which the magnetic tape (201) is wound by the take-up reel (101), in accordance with the type of the drive head (103) and/or the recording density of the magnetic tape (201).
