Abstract:
Provided is a magnetic tape device. An angle θ formed by an axis of an element array of a magnetic head with respect to the width direction of a magnetic tape is changed during running of the magnetic tape in the magnetic tape device. The magnetic tape satisfies equation (1): TDSage + TDSenv – TC ≤ 0.10 µm. In equation (1), TDSage is the maximum value of the absolute value of a difference between a servo band pitch determined prior to saving of 36 hours under a predetermined environment and a servo band pitch determined after the saving. TDSenv is the value calculated by multiplying by 1/2 the difference between a maximum value and a minimum value among servo band pitches determined respectively under predetermined five environments. TC is the value calculated by TC = L{cos(θinitial - Δθ) - cos(θinitial + Δθ)}.
