Title:
MAGNETORESISTIVE SENSOR FOR DETERMINING AN ANGLE OR A POSITION
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2004074764
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to magnetoresistive sensors which utilize the AMR effect or GMR effect and indicate the direction of the homogeneous magnetic field of a rotatable permanent magnet during angle measurements or the position of the sensor relative to a measuring rod that is periodically magnetized in alternate directions during position measurements, and in which the angular value or positional value is obtained from the quotient of the output signals of two bridges or half bridges by means of hyperbolic tangent interpolation. Said magnetoresistive sensors allow for small measuring errors if the output signals are provided with reduced harmonic wave portions and hysteresis areas. Said aim is achieved in inventive arrangements by the fact that the resistors consist of strips while the angle determining the resistance in each constant magnetic field acting upon the strips is constantly modified along the longitudinal extension of the strip. The angle determining the resistance lies between the direction of the current and the direction of magnetization in AMR sensors while lying between the directions of magnetization of two layer components in GMR sensors.
