applique embroidery.

Background Art

Generally, applique embroidery is one of embroidery technique, in

which several pieces of fabrics (decoration cloth or fabric) cut in various

shapes are attached and stitched over a texture cloth configuring various

products such as clothes (i.e., Korean dress, and Western-style dress),

curtains, or bedcovers. The applique embroidery is used to mend a worn

portion of the texture cloth of clothes with another piece of fabric, or is used

to decorate the texture cloth.

In case of doing applique embroidery, a piece of decorative fabric to

be sewn on the texture is designed in a wanted pattern, and is cut out the

designed pattern. The piece of decorative fabric is stitched over the texture

cloth to form the applique embroidery.

In case of cutting out the decorative fabric along a designed pattern

and attaching and stitching the same over the texture cloth, a strand of the

outer portion becomes untwisted, thereby not making the applique

embroidery beautiful. Consequently, the piece of decorative fabric is cut in

such a way that a margin to seam slightly larger than the final piece of

decorative fabric is left. The margin to seam is folded to form the piece of

decorative fabric.

A size of the piece of decorative fabric is different depending upon

the designed pattern. A size of the piece of decorative fabric used for

clothes, such as Korean dress, is within a range of 3 mm to 50 mm. For

example, a flower design used for clothes, such as Korean dress, consists of

several petals, leaves, and a step. Each of the petal and leaf generally has

a size of 3 to 6 mm.

In case of making the piece of decorative fabric to have a size of 3 to

6 mm, a width of the margin to seam is generally formed to have 1 mm. It

is difficult to fold the margin to seam having the narrow width.

Consequently, the piece of decorative fabric is not formed beautifully, and

also a lot of working time and labor costs are required. As a result, the

clothes employing the applique embroidery using the small pieces of

decorative fabrics are very expensive.

Brief Description of the Drawings

The foregoing and other objects, features and advantages of the

present invention will become more apparent from the following detailed

description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in

which:

FIGs. 1 through 2 are flowcharts illustrating the present invention;

FIG. 9 is a flowchart illustrating the present invention; and FIG. 10 is a cross-sectional view illustrating the piece of decorative fabric manufactured by a method according to the present invention, the piece of decorative fabric being sewn on a texture cloth to do applique embroidery.

Best Mode

Reference will now be made in detail to the preferred embodiments

of the present invention.

A method of manufacturing a piece of decorative fabric of applique

embroidery for clothes according to the present invention will now be

described with reference to FIG. 1 through 10.

According to the method of manufacturing a piece of decorative

fabric of applique embroidery for clothes according to the present invention,

as shown in FIGs. 1 , 2, and 9, a decorative cloth 2 having a width wider than

a piece of decorative fabric 3 is laid on an upper surface of a support groove

7 of a cast plate 6, the support groove 7 having the same shape and size as

those of the piece of decorative fabric 3 on which the applique embroidery is

formed on the texture cloth (first step 100).

The cast plate 6 having the support groove 7 is made of a steel or

iron plate having a thickness of 2 to 5 mm, and the support groove 7 has a

depth of 1 to 2 mm. A preform plate 8 which will be described hereinafter is

made of a steel or iron plate having a thickness of up 1 mm, but the cast

plate 6 may be made of plastic. In case the cast plate 6 is made of an iron

plate, the iron plate having a thickness of 2 to 5 mm is utilized. Since the

depth of the support groove 7 is in the range of 1 to 2 mm, the thickness of

the cast plate 6 is thicker than the depth of the support groove 7.

After the decorative cloth 2 is laid on the upper surface of the

support groove 7 in the first step 100, as shown in FIGs. 3 and 9, the

preform 8 having the same shape as that of the support groove 7 and having

a size slightly smaller than that of the support groove 7 is laid on the upper

surface of the decorative cloth 2. Then, a push member 9 presses down

the preform plate 8 to insert the decorative cloth into the support groove 7

(second step 200).

After the decorative cloth 2 is inserted into the support groove 7 in

the second step 200, as shown in FIG. 3, the outer periphery of the

decorative cloth 2 is exposed from the upper edge of the cast plate 6 having

the support groove 7. The edge of the decorative cloth exposed from the

support groove 7 is cut to leave a margin to seam 5 having a predetermined

width, with the decorative fabric 2 being pressed by the preform plate 8 and

the push member 9, as shown in FIGs. 4 and 9 (third step 300).

In this instance, a width of the margin to seam 5 is varied depending

upon the size of the piece of the decorative fabric 3. However, the

decorative cloth 2 is formed to have a width in such a way that a strand does

not become untwisted from the cut end. Preferably, the margin to seam 5

has a width of about 1 mm.

After the margin to seam 5 is formed in the third step 300, as shown

in FIGs. 5 and 9, a paste is applied to the upper surface of the margin to

seam 5 of the decorative cloth 2 pressed by the push member 5 to form a

pasted portion 11 (fourth step 400), with the preform plate 8 being interposed

between the support groove 7 and the push member 9.

After the margin to s^am 5 is applied with the paste in the fourth step

400, as shown in FIGs. 6 and 9, the pasted margin to seam 5 of the

decorative cloth 2 inserted into the support groove 7 and pressed by the

push member 9 is fold upwards by using tweezers 12 to adhere the pasted

margin to seam onto the upper surface of the preform plate 8 (fifth step 500).

When the pasted margin to seam 5 is picked up with the tweezers 12 and

the pasted portion 11 is pushed against the preform plate 8, the pasted

portion 11 is adhered to the upper surface of the preform plate 8. In this

case, the margin to seam 5 adhered to the preform plate 8 is not even.

The operation of pressing the preform plate 8 by the push member 9

is continuously carried out from the second step 200 to the fifth step 500

through the steps 300 and 400, so as to prevent the decorative cloth 2 and

the preform plate 8 from being released from the support groove 7. Since

the decorative cloth 2 is pushed down by the preform plate 8 and the push

member 9, the decorative cloth 2 is maintained in a stationary state.

Consequently, when the margin to seam 5 is formed, the pasted portion 11

is formed, and the margin to seam 5 is folded towards the upper surface of

the preform plate 8 and is adhered thereto, it is easily to carry out the above

operations.

After the pasted margin to seam 5 is folded upward the upper

surface of the preform plate 8 and is adhered thereto in the fifth step 500, the

push member 9 pushing down the preform plate 8 is lifted up to remove the

pushing operation. As shown in FIGs. 7 and 9, the upper surface of the

margin to seam folded and adhered to the upper surface of the preform plate

8 is ironed with an iron 13, in the state the decorative cloth 2 is inserted into

the support groove 7, so as to become the uneven margin to seam 5 flat

and thus to primarily form a piece of decorative fabric 3 (sixth step 600).

After the sixth step 600 is completed, the piece of the decorative

fabric 3 is extracted from the support groove 7, and then the preform plate 8

is removed from the piece of decorative fabric 3, as shown in FIGs. 8 and 9.

Therefore, the piece of decorative fabric is completed (seventh step 700).

Since the piece of decorative fabric 3 is made of a textile and the

preform 8 is made of a thin metal plate, the preform plate 8 can be easily

removed from the piece of decorative fabric 3 primarily manufactured. The

pasted portion 11 of the margin to seam 5 adhered on the upper surface of

the preform plate 8 utilizes a paste having a weak adhesive force, so that the

margin to seam 5 adhered on the upper surface of the preform plate 8 can

be easily detached therefrom.

After the piece of decorative fabric 3 manufactured through the first

through seventh steps is laid on the upper surface of the texture cloth 1 , as

shown in Fig. 3, the edge of the piece of decorative fabric 3 is sewn on the

texture cloth 1 by a thread 10. As a result, the piece of decorative fabric 3

is fixed to the texture cloth 1 , thereby completing the applique embroidery.

When the piece of decorative fabric 3 is laid on the texture cloth 1

and is sewn thereon, the margin to seam 5 has to closely contact the upper

surface of the texture cloth 1 , and the flat decorative surface 4 inserted in the

support groove 7 has to face upwards, as shown in FIG. 3.

A method of utilizing a magnetic force of an electromagnet may be

added in the present invention. For example, in the state the cast plate 6 is

laid on an electromagnet plate 15, the magnetic force may be utilized from

the second step 200 of inserting the preform plate 8 into the support groove

7 to the seventh step 700 of extracting the piece of the decorative fabric 2

from the support groove 7. As a result, the preform plate 8 is attracted by

the magnetic force generated from the electromagnet plate 15, and the

preform plate 8 is rigidly adhered to the cast plate 6, with the piece of the

decorative fabric 2 being interposed between the support groove 7 and the

preform plate 8. Consequently, the applique embroidery can be effectively

obtained.

During the process, a switch (not shown) installed on one side of the

electromagnet plate is turned off, if necessary. When the magnetic force is

not generated from the electromagnet, the preform plate 8 can be easily

detached from the support groove 7, which is widely known in the prior art.

Alternatively, a permanent magnet may be used to insert the preform

plate into the support groove, instead of the electromagnet.

Industrial Applicability

As can be seen from the foregoing, the present invention can

remarkably reduce a time required to manufacture the piece of decorative

fabric and also mass produce the pieces of decorative fabrics having the

same shape. As a result, a cost of clothes can be significantly reduced by

using the piece of the decorative fabrics.

While this invention has been described in connection with what is

presently considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is

to be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed

embodiment and the drawings. On the contrary, it is intended to cover

various modifications and variations within the spirit and scope of the

appended claims.
