Description:
MANUFACTURING METHOD OF MOUNTING HOLE FOR ACCESSORIZED

ALUMINUM WHEELS

Technological Aspect:

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing accessory mounting holes in wheels on which various parts are mounted on the style surface, especially aluminum wheels with accessories.

State Of The Art:

Wheels are safety parts that contact the road through the tire, are located between the tire and the axle system on the vehicle, and operate under different environmental conditions throughout their service life.

Since the wheels are suitable for customization, various accessories can be mounted on the wheel. Accessories are mounted on the wheel with different methods. For this reason, it is necessary to have assembly holes where accessories will be mounted on the wheel and mounting holes that allow them to be bolted. In the current situation, on the wheel models with accessory mounting, the mounting holes that allow the accessory to be mounted on the wheel are created by drilling operation in the machining process.

Most of the aluminum alloy wheels produced today are produced by the low pressure casting method (LPDC). Subsequently, mounting holes are drilled using machining methods for mounting the accessories. Although LPDC method is suitable for mass production, it has some disadvantages. The parts produced with LPDC undergo shape changes in geometrical dimensions that can reach millimeters according to their dimensions. The geometric changes called "warping" during the production of the wheel cause the wheel geometry to deviate from the nominal dimensions in a homogeneous I unsymmetrical manner.

When machining on the deformed part according to the standard coordinate system of the CNC machine, the holes can be positioned out of tolerance on the wheel. In other words, the process capability is very low due to the wide tolerances in the mounting holes obtained by machining with the machining method and the position deviations between the holes. Due to these wide tolerances, the accessories cannot be properly mounted on the wheel. This situation causes a production with a very high waste rate.

In the patent document numbered W02020023107A1 encountered in the literature search, a method of mounting wheel covers for aerodynamic wheels is described. In the document mentioned, holes for mounting the wheel cover are mentioned. These holes which are already machined and existed include the above disadvantages.

As a result, there is a need for a wheel manufacturing method that overcomes the state of the art and eliminates the disadvantages for mounting various parts used in wheels with accessories.

A Short Explanation of Invention:

The invention is a wheel manufacturing method that includes additional features, overcoming the state of the art for the assembly of wheel mounted accessories and eliminating its disadvantages.

The aim of the invention is to introduce a new production method in which the mounting holes on the wheel are formed by casting method for mounting the accessories to the wheels.

Explanation of Invention:

In this detailed description, the wheel production method of the invention is explained with examples that will not create any limiting effect, for a better understanding of the subject. The specification describes a method for manufacturing wheels to which accessory parts are mounted on the style surface.

In Figure 1 , an exploded section view is given for a wheel on which the inventive production method is applied. Accordingly, the assembly geometry includes a wheel (10) and an accessory (20). The wheel (10) is an aluminum alloy part with a standard appearance. An accessory (20) is mounted on its style surface to customize the wheel (10). These accessories (20) are used in the prior art, and their material does not have any effect on the invention. Accessories (20) are mounted on the style surface of the wheels (10). For this purpose, there are accessory mounting holes (11 ) on the wheel (10). The accessory (20) is mounted to the wheel (10) by connecting the mentioned mounting holes (11) and the mounting slot (22) it has with the mounting elements (21 ).

In Figure 2, a perspective view of a wheel (10) on which the inventive production method is applied is given. Accordingly, there are many mounting holes (11 ) on the wheel (10) for mounting the accessories (20). Mentioned accessory mounting holes (11 ) are manufactured by machining in the known technique and are manufactured by casting method in the subject matter invention.

As it is known, the wheels (10) are produced by the low pressure casting method (LPDC). During the casting process, molds that containing pins are prepared in the lower mold and upper mold parts used in the casting process by calculating the location of the mounting holes (11 ) in order to create an accessory mounting hole (11 ) on the wheel (10). Subsequently, the casting process is carried out and the wheel (10) production is completed. The sections with pins in the casting mold form the mounting holes (11 ). Since the accessory mounting holes (11) are formed during the casting process of the wheel (10), machining is not used, and high-wastage wheel production problems caused by axis and tolerance misalignments due to machining are prevented.
