Abstract:
A manure processing apparatus for processing poultry manure into a fertilizer comprizes a drum dryer 1 provided with a stirring mechanism 3 for keeping the manure present in the drum dryer in motion during operation, the drum dryer being provided with a manure input 5 for raw wet manure and a fertilizer output 7 for dry fertilizer, as well as an air outlet 9 for discharging humid air. The manure processing apparatus further includes a condensation device 11 which is connected to the air outlet, as well as evacuation means 13, 15 for creating an under-pressure in the drum dryer 1. By drying the manure in the drum dryer at under-pressure, the drying process evolves more rapidly. The evaculation means 13, 15 are preferably formed by the condensation device 11.

CLAIMS:

1. A manure processing apparatus for processing poultry manure into a fertilizer, comprising a drum dryer (1) provided with a stirring mechanism (3) for keeping the manure present in the drum dryer in motion during operation, the drum dryer being provided with a manure input (5) for raw wet manure and a fertilizer output (7) for dry fertilizer, as well as an air outlet (9) for discharging humid air, and the manure processing apparatus further including a condensation device (11) which is connected to the air outlet, characterized in that the manure processing apparatus further includes evacuation means (13, 15) for creating an under-pressure in the drum dryer (1).

2. A manure processing apparatus as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the evacuation means (13, 15) are formed by the condensation device (11).

3. A manure processing apparatus as claimed in claim 2, characterized in that the condensation device (11) comprises a condensation vessel (13) as well as a vacuum pump (15) which is connected to the condensation vessel.

4. A manure processing apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the the drum dryer (1) is a double- walled drum dryer.

5. A manure processing apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the drum dryer (1) is provided with a hollow drum dryer shaft (17).

6. A manure processing apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the drum dryer (1) is further provided with an injector (19) for injecting steam into the space inside the drum dryer.

7. A manure processing apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the manure processing apparatus is provided with a weighing device (21) for weighing the drum dryer (1) with contents, as well as a dry matter sensor (24).

8. A manure processing apparatus as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the manure processing apparatus further includes an air filter (23) which is connected to the air outlet (9) and to which the condensation device (11) is connected.

9. A manure processing apparatus as claimed in claim 8, characterized in that the air filter (23) is provided with heating means (25) for the prevention of condensation of the air to be filtered.

10. A manure processing apparatus as claimed in claims 4 and 9, characterized in that the wall (2) of the drum dryer is provided with a steam supply inlet (2a) for introducing steam into the space between the inner wall and outer wall of the drum dryer, as well as a

su bstitute sheets (ru le 26) condensed water outlet (2b) for discharging condensed water, which condensed water outlet is connected to the heating means (25).

11. A manure processing apparatus as claimed in claims 5 and 9, characterized in that the hollow drum dryer shaft (17) is provided with a further steam supply inlet (17a) for introducing steam into the space inside the drum dryer shaft, as well as a further condensed water outlet (17b) for discharging condensed water, which condensed water outlet is connected to the heating means (25).

Field of the invention

The invention relates to a manure processing apparatus for processing poultry manure into a fertilizer, comprising a drum dryer provided with a stirring mechanism for keeping the manure present in the drum dryer in motion during operation, the drum dryer being provided with a manure input for raw wet manure and a fertilizer output for dry fertilizer, as well as an air outlet for discharging humid air, and the manure processing apparatus further including a condensation device which is connected to the air outlet. A manure processing apparatus of this type is generally known. Summary of the invention

It is an object of the invention to provide a manure processing apparatus of the type defined in the opening paragraph in which the drying process is executed in a better and more efficient way. For this purpose the manure processing apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that the manure processing apparatus further includes evacuation means for creating an under-pressure in the drum dryer. The drying of the manure in the drum dryer at under-pressure causes the drying process to evolve more rapidly. The dried manure is then pelletized and discharged in big bags. For the pelletizing process to be successful the manure must not be too dry or too wet.

An advantageous embodiment of the manure processing apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that the evacuationm means are formed by the condensation device. When condensation is effected of humid air, the air volume is considerably decreased as a result of which an under-pressure is created. This under-pressure is utilized for creating an under-pressure in the drum dryer, so that only a light vacuum pump is needed for obtaining the desired under-pressure in the drum dryer. su bstitute sheets (ru le 26) The condensation device preferably comprises a condensation vessel as well as a vacuum pump which is connected to the condensation vessel. For causing the condensation process to be commenced this vacuum pump needs to be switched on only briefly.

The drum dryer is preferably a double-walled drum dryer. The space between the walls is filled preferably with steam for drying the manure present in the drum dryer. During this operation the steam will consensate and be discharged in the form of condensed water.

Furthermore, the drum dryer is provided with a hollow drum dryer shaft. This increases the heat transfer surface thus accelerating the drying process.

A further embodiment of the manure processing apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that the drum dryer is further provided with an injector for injecting steam into the space inside the drum dryer. As a result of the injection of steam the manure is sterilized.

Yet a further embodiment of the manure processing apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that the manure processing apparatus is provided with a weighing device for weighing the drum dryer with contents, as well as a dry matter sensor. As a result, there may be established with relatively simple means how much water has evaporated from the manure. By determining by means of the dried matter sensor the moisture content of the manure prior to the drying operation, the moisture content can be determined in a simple manner based on the weight reduction and the measured values coming from the dry matter sensor which continues to measure during the drying process.

Still a further embodiment of the manure processing apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that the manure processing apparatus further includes an air filter which is connected to the air outlet and to which the condensation device is connected. The air filter is preferably a candle filter provided with a double-walled outside wall.

A highly advantageous embodiment of the manure processing apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that the air filter is provided with heating means for the prevention of condensation of the air to be filtered. By heating the air filter it is avoided that the humid air to be filtered is condensed inside the air filter as a result of which less sedimentation of impurities takes place and the air filter is clogged at greater intervals or is not clogged at all.

Preferably, the wall of the drum dryer is provided with a steam supply inlet for introducing steam into the space between inner wall and outer wall of the drum dryer, as well su bstitute sheets (ru le 26) as a condensed water outlet for discharging condensed water, which condensed water outlet is connected to the heating means. By utilizing the hot condensed water for the heating of the air filter, no additional energy is needed for this purpose.

Furthermore, the hollow drum dryer shaft is preferably provided with a further steam supply inlet for introducing steam into the space inside the drum dryer shaft, as well as a further condensed water outlet for discharging condensed water, which condensed water outlet is connected to the heating means. Also the water condensed in the drum dryer shaft can be advantageously utilized in this manner for heating the air filter. Brief description of the drawings

Hereinafter the invention will be further elucidated with reference to an example of embodiment of the manure processing apparatus according to the invention represented in the drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 shows in a diagrammatic manner an embodiment of the manure processing apparatus.

Detailed description of the drawings The manure processing apparatus has a double-walled drum dryer 1 provided with a stirring mechanism 3 for keeping the manure present in the drum dryer in motion during operation. The drum dryer is provided with a manure input 5 for raw wet manure and a fertilizer output 7 for dry fertilizer, as well as an air outlet 9 for discharging humid air. The manure processing apparatus further includes a condensation device 11 which is connected to the air outlet. This condensation device creates an under-pressure in the drum dryer during the condensation process. The condensation device comprises a condensation vessel 13 as well as a vacuum pump 15 which is connected to the condensation vessel.

The drum dryer is provided with a hollow drum dryer shaft 17. Inside the drum dryer is located an injector for injecting 19 steam into the space within the drum dryer. This injector is connected to a boiler 22 via a pipe 20.

The manure processing apparatus further includes a weighing device 21 for weighing the drum dryer plus contents, as well as a dry matter sensor 24 for determining the dry matter content at the beginning and during the time of the processing operation. By determining a priori the moisture content of the manure by means of the dry matter sensor, it su bstitute sheets (ru le 26) is possible to determine the actual moisture content in a simple manner, based on the weight loss and the measured values coming from the dry matter sensor which continues to measure during the drying process and a signal may be given when the manure has been dried sufficiently.

The manure processing apparatus further includes an air filter 23 which is connected to the air outlet 9 and to which the condensation device 11 is connected. The air filter comprises heating means 25 for the prevention of condensation of the air to be filtered.

The drum dryer wall 2 and the drum dryer shaft 17 have steam supply inlets 2a and 17a which are connected via pipes 27 to the boiler 22. Through these pipes steam is introduced into the space inside the hollow drum dryer wall 2 and the hollow drum dryer shaft 17. Furthermore, the hollow drum dryer wall 2 and the hollow drum dryer shaft 17 are provided with condensed water outlets 2b and 17b for discharging condensed water. These condensed water outlets are connected via further pipes 29 to the heating means 25 and a pipe 31 subsequently returns the cooled condensed water to the boiler 22.

The stirring mechanism 3 in the drum dryer is formed by a helical paddle or various short paddles for transporting the manure in the drum dryer. By allowing the stirring mechanism 3 to run clockwise and counter clockwise alternately the manure is kept properly in motion.

The outlet 9 contains a bypass 33 at a shut-off valve 35 in the discharge outlet. During the sterilization process of the manure by means of steam injection the discharge outlet 9 is closed and the vapour is evacuated via the narrower bypass 33.

The drying process in the drum dryer takes approximately 5 hours after which the dried manure can be used as fertilizer and be removed from the drum dryer. The manure is maintained in the drum dryer for at least 1 hour at a temperature of at least 70°C so as to have it freed from mould. For this purpose temperature sensors are installed at various spots (4 in this embodiment) in the drum dryer. The air present in the drum dryer after it has been emptied is disposed of to the environment through a filter. Preferably, the manure is maintained at a temperature of at least 133°C for at least 20 minutes so as to be sterilized. The under-pressure that has developed in the drum dryer is terminated after the drying process in that air is allowed to flow into the drum dryer through a filter. This filter provides that the space in the drum dryer remains sterilized.

Albeit the invention has been described in the foregoing based on the drawing, it should be observed that the invention is not by any manner or means restricted to the
