• switching at least two devices into the mapping mode using a mechanical button or via a panel,

• listing, in the screen of the device equipped with a screen, the other devices currently in the mapping mode,

• selecting the other device intended to be connected to via the device with screen,

• the selected device notifying the connection request with an audible and/or visual warning,

• the user permitting the connection via a mechanical button or a panel of the device and then establishing the connection.

2. A mapping method according to Claim 1 characterized in that it comprises the step of rejecting the connection request in case the user does not give his/her permission for the connection within a predefined duration after the process step of "the selected device notifying the connection request with an audible and/or visual warning".

3. A mapping method according to Claim 1 characterized in that in case where one of the devices wirelessly communicate and map with more than one device and in case one of the devices goes beyond the coverage area in which the wireless communication is possible between the two devices or where the wireless connection of said device is disabled, the connection only with said device is terminated.

4. A mapping method according to Claim 1 characterized in that when the wireless connection of a previously mapped device is reactivated and the devices are present within a coverage area in which they will be able to communicate wirelessly or when a device with active wireless connection reenters a coverage area in which the devices will be able to communicate wirelessly, the connection between the two devices is provided automatically.

Description:
A MAPPING METHOD

Subject of the Invention

The invention relates to a method enabling to establish communication between two different devices capable of wireless communication.

State of the Art

Owing to the advancing technology, the electronic devices have become capable of communicating with each other. The devices need to communicate with each other sometimes for transmitting a command to another device and sometimes for providing the data sharing among the devices.

Today, the devices are able to communicate in a wireless manner as well and the wireless communication is in fact a frequently preferred method. Some issues of security may arise, because of the lack of a physical connection between the devices that communicate wirelessly. An unwanted third device may interfere in the connection between two devices that are intended to communicate wirelessly.

In order to avoid such security problems, the passwords are assigned to the devices wherein the connection is allowed if the password for the device with which it is being attempted to establish connection is entered correctly. According to this method, it is necessary that the password for the device attempted to be connected is known and that the connecting device in turn has an input component that will enable the entry of said password.

For this reason, a fixed password that depends on the make and model is defined for the headphones and the similar devices that do not have a screen and the connection is provided by entering said password via another device attempting to connect to the target device. In case the same device is present in a quantity of more than one in the same environment, the fact that the devices have the same password may result in connecting to the wrong device. On the other hand, in case a different password is assigned for each device, the problems may be encountered in providing said passwords to the users. With the mapping method according to the invention, no password is used while establishing the connection between two devices, thereby making it possible to connect also to the devices not having a screen or a similar component that would allow said devices to provide their password to the user; on the other hand, interaction with both devices is required for the connection, thereby preventing an unwanted third device from connecting to the device that is the target of the connection to be established, and further, since the same password is not assigned to the devices of the same make and model and since the interaction is necessary during the connection, the connection with the wrong device is prevented.

Object of the Invention

An object of the invention relates to a mapping method in which two devices capable of wireless communication are enabled to connect without using any password and an unwanted third device is prevented from connecting.

Another object of the invention relates to a mapping method in which the interaction with both devices is necessary during the mapping of two devices, thereby avoiding the mapping of the wrong devices and preventing the connection of a third device.

Detailed Description of the Invention

The invention relates to a method employed in mapping two devices that are intended to establish wireless communication. More particularly, the invention relates to a mapping method wherein, for the embodiments where there is involved a device, which lacks a screen or a similar component for providing a unique password to the user thereof to be used when mapping said device securely with another device, and where it is desired to enable only the allowed devices to connect to said device, the mapping may be provided by establishing physical contact with both devices.

In order for more than one device to establish communication wirelessly, it is necessary to enable said devices to recognize one another, i.e. it is necessary to map the same. Once the devices are mapped, the connection between two devices is provided preferably automatically and the communication is thus initiated. It is necessary that all the devices, among which wireless connection is to be established, have a mapping mode. In the method according to the invention, the devices are first switched into the mapping mode so that the mapping can be realized. The method for switching a device into the mapping mode may differ according to the field of use for the device and the respective needs wherein the mapping mode may be activated via a panel as well as by the use of a mechanical button. Once the mapping modes of both devices are activated, the devices attain the state in which they are ready to connect.

At least one of the devices to be mapped is required to have a screen. This screen lists the identities of the other devices currently in the mapping mode and the user selects the device he/she wishes to connect. The device detecting the connection request waits for the confirmation of the user before accepting the connection. The device notifies its user of the connection request by an audible and/or visual warning. That the device with which the connection is attempted to be established notifies such attempt to its user prevents the user from connecting to the wrong device. In other words, despite the user having sent the request for connection with another device to a device which he/she thinks is the one that he/she wants to connect, if no audible and/or visual feedback is received from the actually targeted device, then the user will be able to realize that the device he/she is attempting to connect is not the device he/she actually wants to connect.

The connection does not occur unless the user confirms the connection via the device awaiting confirmation and the connection request is rejected preferably after a predefined duration. The user may provide his/her confirmation for the connection request using a mechanical button or by means of a panel.

After the user has confirmed the connection, the wireless connection takes place between the two devices and the devices exit the mapping mode. Unless the devices are switched back into the mapping mode or unless the mapping is disabled, the connection between the two devices is provided automatically whenever both devices are active and are located within the coverage area where they will be capable of establishing wireless communication. To put it in a different way, in case the device, which for any reason has gone beyond the coverage area or the wireless connection for which has been disabled, reenters the coverage area and its wireless connection is active, the connection is automatically established. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, one of the devices features the ability to wirelessly communicate and map with more than one device. In this embodiment, in case one of the devices connected to said device disables the wireless communication or goes beyond the coverage area in which the wireless communication is possible, only this device is disconnected and the connection established with the other devices is maintained.

The mapping method according to the invention comprises the process steps of

• switching at least two devices, among which the wireless connection is to be established, into the mapping mode using a mechanical button or via a panel,

• listing, in the screen of the device equipped with a screen, the other devices currently in the mapping mode,

• selecting the other device intended to be connected to via the device with screen,

• the selected device notifying the connection request with an audible and/or visual warning,

• the user permitting the connection via a mechanical button or a panel of the device and then establishing the connection or rejecting the connection request in case the confirmation is not given for a predetermined duration.

With the mapping method according to the invention, the connection between at least two devices that are desired to establish communication wirelessly may be provided without any password or a similar code being required while it is also possible to prevent an unwanted third device from connecting. The mapping method according to the invention will come in useful especially in establishing wireless connection with devices, which are at a fixed position and which lack a screen and the similar hardware.
