Abstract:
Provided is a martensitic free-cutting stainless steel bar material characterized by having chemical components including 0.10-0.60% of C, 0.1-2.0% of Si, 0.1-3.0% of Mn, 0.15-0.40% of S, 0.10% or less of P, and 11.0-16.0% of Cr, the balance being Fe and impurities, as well as by having an average Cr carbide circle equivalent diameter of 0.80 μm or less, and having a Cr carbide number density of 0.10/μm2 or greater. More preferably, the average sulfide circle equivalent diameter is 5.0 μm or less, and the sulfide number density is 0.010/μm2 or greater. This makes it possible to obtain exceptional tool service life during precision cutting and to obtain cut surface quality having exceptional flatness achieved by cutting.
