Abstract:
With a conventional mass analyzer, when ions are converged in a high-frequency field under a comparatively high gas pressure condition, stagnation occurs if ions decelerate with a significant delay to cause a reduction in detection sensitivity and a ghost peak. In the inventive mass analyzer, a lens electrode (40) has a plurality of sets of four electrodes arranged in a plurality of stages at almost equal distances in an ion optical axis (C) direction, each set of four electrodes being positioned in a plane almost orthogonal to the ion optical axis (C) and having four platy electrodes (41a-41d) arranged radially at 90æ intervals around the ion axis (C). High-frequency voltages applied to adjacent electrodes in an ion optical axis (C) direction have respective phases deviated specified amounts. Accordingly, when ions rush into this electrode (40), ion accelerating actions are produced according to phase deviations between adjacent high-frequency fields and ions are accelerated incrementally as they advance through the electrode (40), whereby delay or stagnation can be avoided.
