Provided is a massive fiber body which can be used as artificial soil particles having both a water-retaining property and strength and also having superior air permeability. A massive fiber body (1) comprises a core part (3) produced by assembling fibers (2) and an air-permeable film (4) covering the core part (3), wherein the air-permeable film (4) is provided with a porous structure and covers 40% or more of the outer surface of the core part (3), the core part (3) has a water-retaining material, and an ion exchange ability is imparted to the core part (3) and/or the air-permeable film (4), said massive fiber body (1) having a particle diameter of 1 to 10 mm and being so adapted that the amount of water retained can be controlled between a wet state in which water is retained in the core part (3) in a saturated state and an air-permeable state in which water is not retained in the core part (3) in a saturated state.
