Abstract:
(1) A material for modifying a friction surface of a metal member which comprises, as a main component, a mineral powder comprising 80 mass % or more of a phyllosilicate mineral particles; and (2) a method for modifying the friction surface of a metal member, characterized in that it comprises contacting a fluidal lubricant containing the above modifying material in a state of a dispersion with the friction surface of said metal member, while operating a device equipped with the metal member, to thereby lubricate and simultaneously modify the friction surface of said metal member. The above material for modifying a friction surface has functions to impart improved abrasion resistance to the friction surface of a metal member and to repair a roughened friction surface.
