Abstract:
Provided are: a material for springs which exhibits both a high strength, namely, a tensile strength as high as 1900MPa or more, and high ductility; and a manufacturing process therefor. A material for springs which consists of an iron-base alloy and which comprises, in terms of area fraction of the internal structure in any cross section, 30 to 80% of tempered martensite, 5 to 70% of lower bainite, and 8 to 15% of retained austenite, with the average carbon concentration of the retained austenite being 1.0 to 2.0 wt%.
