Description:

Mattress construction

The invention relates to a mattress construction.

From prior art, the use of visco-elastic foam plastic as a mattress construction is know. The foam plastic in question functions so that it exactly yields after the weight of the person and thereby forms the surface of the mattress structure such that it conforms to the build of the person's body. Used mattress thicknesses are about 5 cm. A disadvantage of the above-mentioned construction is excessive yield on target zones on which quite high surface pressures are applied and in which great resilience is not desired. To avoid the above-mentioned problem, this specification describes a separate movable strip the width of which is e.g. 20 cm and which balances the surface pressure in the mattress construction especially at the point of the sleeper's waist. In this specification, the above-mentioned balanc- ing construction is called a strip and it is movable to a desired point in the mattress on the length Lj of the mattress. Then depending on the sleeper, it is possible to form the mattress construction optimal for each mattress user. According to the invention, the fastening of the movable strip is implemented by using sticker glue on one side of the strip, the sticker glue coming against the mattress, and fastening the strip at a desired point on the mattress length. The sticker glue is arranged into connection with wadding which wadding is further fastened to the body material of the strip. The body material is formed of inelastic material, such as textile material, imitation leather, suede etc. Then, when said body of the above-mentioned strip comes against the sleeper, the inelastic material layer of the strip balances the surface pressure provided by the sleeper to a larger area compared to a case in which the strip would not be used and in which the sleeper's body weight e.g. at the point of the waist would come as such against the visco-elastic foam plastic. The strip is a non-breathable construction and thus does not convey moisture in the visco-elastic foam plastic mattress.

In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the mattress material is particularly visco-elastic foam plastic. Within the scope of the invention, also other foam or cellular plastic constructions can be used as the mattress construction. It is possible within the scope of the invention to use a spring mattress as the mattress which topmost comprises a foam or cellular plastic layer, e.g. a layer of visco- elastic foam plastic, as the top layer i.e. the cover section.

A mattress construction according to the invention is characterised by what is presented in the claims.

The invention will now be described with reference to some advantageous embodiments of the invention shown in the figures of the accompanying drawings to which the invention is, however, by no means intended to be solely defined.

Fig. 1 axonometrically shows a mattress construction according to the invention.

Fig. 2 shows section I-I of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 shows an axonometric separate view of a strip according to the invention.

Fig. 4 shows another advantageous embodiment of a strip according to the invention.

Fig. 1 shows a mattress construction 100 according to the invention. The mattress construction 100 comprises a mattress 10 and a movable strip 11 therein and de- tachably fastenable to the mattress 10. The mattress 10 is advantageously of visco-elastic foam plastic. Visco-elastic foam plastic functions so that, from the effect of weight and heat, it structurally remains in the form in which a heavy element sets the mattress construction. Visco-elastic foam plastic is especially used as packing materials, because foam plastic easily forms in the shape of the item being packed. The foam plastic in question is also used as a mattress con-

struction. Then as described above, a problem of prior art arrangements has been that especially the waist area causes too high surface loads and the mattress is formed in a non-desired shape. For avoiding said disadvantage, the surface pressures are balanced by using the movable strip 11 according to the invention. The strip 11 is detachably fastenable on an upper surface 10ai of the mattress 10 by a fastening means 14, such as sticker glue.

The mattress can be a visco-elastic foam plastic mattress or generally a foam plastic mattress or also a spring mattress which comprises as the top layer a foam plastic layer, such as a layer of visco-elastic foam plastic. The mattress 10 can also be a bedding mattress of foam plastic or of visco-elastic foam plastic.

In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the strip 11 comprises a base material layer i.e. body material 12 on the lower surface of which there is, in an advantageous embodiment, detachably fastened a thermal insulation layer 13, such as wadding, by the fastening means 14. The fastening means 14 is advantageously glue, such as sticker glue. The wadding 13 is impregnated or soaked with glue 14, such as sticker glue. The wadding is an insulating layer which prevents heat from conveying in the visco-elastic foam plastic mattress 10 which becomes even more resil- ient from the effect of heat. Thus, the strip 11 is detachably fastenable by means of sticker glue 14 on the surface 10ai of the mattress 10 at a desired point on the length Li of the mattress and on the distance of its width L 2 . The fastening means 14 is advantageously glue, such as sticker glue. Within the scope of the invention, also such an embodiment is possible in which there is no thermal insulation layer 13 and the strip 11 only comprises the fastening means 14, such as glue 14, advantageously sticker glue, in the base material layer 12.

Fig. 3 shows an axonometric separate view of the strip 11. The width L 3 of the strip is advantageously 5 cm-50 cm. The thickness S of the strip is in the range of 3 mm-8 mm.

According to the invention, the base material 12 of the strip 11, which comes against the sleeper, is of inelastic material. The inelastic material 12 is advantageously textile or imitation leather or suede. To the textile is fastened the thermal insulation layer 13, such as wadding, which is impregnated or soaked with the fastening means 14, advantageously with glue and advantageously sticker glue. Then, the sticker glue 14 fastens the wadding to the base material 12 and simultaneously the sticker glue 14 fastens the strip 11 to the mattress 10. When using the sticker glue 14, the sufficient and durable positioning of the strip 11 is enabled in its base i.e. on the surface 10ai of the mattress 10. However, the strip 11 is easily detachable and movable to another position on the length Li of the mattress 10.

As shown in the figure, the base material 12 in the strip 11 comprises on its lower surface the thermal insulator 13 which also functions as padding material. The thermal insulator 13 is advantageously wadding which is impregnated with glue 14, such as advantageously sticker glue. By using the sticker glue 14 in the detachable fastening of the strip 11 to the foam plastic mattress 10, the precise keeping of the strip 11 in place is enabled and the transfer of the strip 11 in the longitudinal direction of the mattress 10 due to the force of the top surface level of the mattress caused by the sleeper is prevented. The thermal insulator 13 prevents heat from transferring in the mattress, such as advantageously visco-elastic foam plastic, whereby it is more rigid in the area of the strip 11.

The width L 3 of the strip 11 is advantageously in the range of 5-50 cm and the thickness S of the strip is 3-8mm and the strip 11 is of the width of the mattress 10. The glue 14, advantageously sticker glue, is spread on the whole length of the strip 11 such that the strip 11 is at all points fast in the mattress 10 by means of the glue. The glue 14 is advantageously sticker glue, whereby a detachable connection of the strip 11 to the base is provided.

Fig. 4 shows another advantageous embodiment of the strip according to the invention in which the strip is shaped of its length such that suitable support is pro-

vided for the person depending on the person loading the mattress. Then, the strip 11 is shaped of its edge 11 ' corrugatedly curvilinear, whereby different support points are provided for the person on the width and the length of the mattress and the strip. The strip shown in Fig. 4 can be similar to the one in Fig. 3 i.e. comprise a thermal insulation layer 13, advantageously wadding, which is impregnated with glue 14, such as sticker glue, on the whole length of the strip. When the sticker glue 14 is set on the whole length of the strip, the strip 11 can be fastened at all points in the mattress, bedding mattress etc. underneath. Then, the strip becomes effectively but still detachably fastened at the desired point on the length of the mattress and on the whole length of the strip. The strip shown in Fig. 4 can also be without the thermal insulator 13 i.e. it can solely comprise the sticker glue 14 on the whole length of the strip 11 and the base material 12.

According to the invention, the strip 11 and its base material 12 are of inelastic material, whereby the strip 11 does not stretch from the effect of the sleeper's weight. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, the strip 11 has a larger width L 3 in the middle than on the sides i.e. the comb D of the corrugation of the edge 11' is in the middle area of the strip 11 and the mattress 10. Then, support is provided until the neck in the back position i.e. the sleeper being on his/her back, hi the side position i.e. the sleeper being on his/her side, a soft space is provided for the shoulder. The shoulder is able to sink sufficiently deeply in the mattress 10.
