Abstract:
A mattress (12) is constructed from a mattress body having an upper (18) and a lower deck, which is preferably pervious to moisture and air. A removable panel (14), which includes a top layer (23) of breathable fabric, a bottom layer (25) of a fabric that forms a moisture barrier, and a batting layer (24), is placed on at least the upper deck (18) of the mattress body. The removable panel (14) is removably attached along the perimeter of the deck or decks (18) by a fastener (20), such as a zipper. The panel (14) can be removed from the deck (18) for cleaning and folded and secured by the fastener (20) in an inverted configuration, with the top layer (23) facing outward.
