Abstract:
A mechanical component is provided with a core part which is composed of a steel for mechanical structures, a moderately carbon-containing layer which is formed from the steel for mechanical structures and covers the core part, and a highly carbon-containing layer which covers the moderately carbon-containing layer and has a carbon concentration of 0.8 to 1.5%. The highly carbon-containing layer comprises a martensitic structure having a carbide dispersed therein and a residual austenitic structure, wherein the number of particles of a spheroidized carbide each having an aspect ratio of 1.5 or less is 90% or more of the total number of particles of the carbide and the number of particles of a spheroidized carbide present on a prior austenite grain boundary is 40% or less of the total number of particles of the carbide.
