Abstract:

A mechanical pencil (10) has: a shaft tube (20); a cap unit (30) that is supported by the shaft tube (20); a lead retention unit (40) that has a chuck (41) sending out a retained lead (LE) by moving relative to the cap unit (30); and a display body (70) that is provided so as to be movable in an axial direction (AD). The display body (70) demarcates, from the rear, a lead housing space (S) that is formed in the shaft tube (20), to the rear of the chuck (41). At least when in a specific location, the display body (70) can be observed from the outside of the shaft tube (20). The length (LA) along the axial direction (AD) between a rear end of the lead housing space (S) when the display body (70) has moved in the axial direction (AD) as far rearward as possible and the front end of the cap unit (30) is at least two times the length (LX) of a spare lead (SLE) that is housed in the lead housing space (S).
