Abstract:

A media encoded data transmission method stores in transmitted packets and transmits media encoded data, using a protocol that allows both error detection codes as calculated from the data included in the transmitted packets and information for determining data portions as used in the calculation of the error detection codes to be stored in the transmitted packets. The method includes a step of classifying beforehand, into groups, data elements that can constitute the transmitted packets, according to a degree to which the error of any particular data element will affect the reproduction quality on a receiver side, and a step of deciding, as a data portion for calculating the error detection code, a data portion that includes all the data elements belonging to the group of a high affection degree with reference to a predetermined criterion and that has the shortest data length, for each transmitted packet when each transmitted packet is produced and transmitted.
