A medium addition system and method. The medium addition system comprises: a medium suction apparatus (11), a water addition apparatus (12), a dense medium barrel (13) and a control apparatus (14). The medium suction apparatus (11) comprises: a suction device (111), a weighing apparatus (112), a conveyor (113), a conveying track (114) and a plurality of proximity switches (115), wherein the suction device (111) is provided with the weighing apparatus (112) and is connected to the conveyor (113); the conveyor (113) runs on the conveying track (114), which is provided with the plurality of proximity switches (115); and the conveying track (114) is arranged above a medium library. The water addition apparatus (12) comprises a clean-water pipe (121) for adding clean water into the dense medium barrel (13), and a clean-water valve (122) and a clean-water flow meter (123), which are arranged on the clean-water pipe (121). According to state feedback of the proximity switches (115), the control apparatus (14) controls the conveyor (113) to run on the conveying track (114), and controls, according to the weighing apparatus (116), the suction device (111) to suck up a medium and inject same into the dense medium barrel (13).
